I am very surprised at how little I knew about market condition. I plan to review these lessons once more to ensure I really understand. I appreciate the time your have spent developing this material and am very happy you offer this course at such a reasonable cost. Today as I write this email, my overall futures knowledge has dramatically increased even though I am partially complete.

I am sincerely in grateful for everything I learned from the Cisco-futures home study course. It was the best investment of the time and money that I have yet to make in my career as a trader. I highly recommend the Cisco- future home study course. And I am proud to be one of the Cisco alumni.

Subj: Trading Feedback
I will like to give you some feedback on my trading. As you know I started trading real money on 3rd of Nov 2008 after taking the short course and trading the strategy on fx for another 6 months.

I kept it simple taking the intiative trades 1 tick above/below the 5 days bracket limits and only taking the select trades from the report.

I risked 1% per trade and I very happy to tell you that I made 28% return in november. I started with 10000 pounds and my balance today is 12800 pounds.

This is the 1st time ever that I'll make such a return from trading.. and I'm so happy I met someone like you.
Y.A. GBR

Ed. It is almost embarassing to post this note since it reads so much like the overblown testimonials one sees in this business. It is certainly true that Mr. Y.A. took our Short Course and regularly interacted with us via the weekly question/answer session. His questions indicated a good grasp of the material.

This week my understanding of the many concepts in the course came together into a coherent whole. The catalyst to this "switching the lights on" was your CISCO News email. Previously, I lacked the understanding of how to analyse (determine) the short term value in the market.

I have chosen recently to concentrate on grains, with an emphasis on soybeans. Part of this is due to my father's vast experience in this area of commodities and background in agriculture. Your short course and website tools have been the foundation of my knowledge of futures trading and I am very grateful to you for providing me with this gateway into what I hope is a career in commodities trading.

Trading is really a tough business and I admit sometimes it'S hard to stay focused all the time. In confidence between you and me, I made 6000 USD in six days towards the end of my course using CMaPS and probably lost half because I stopped using the profile graphic due to many other commitments, so now I have made contact with Alexander Trading to try to make continued progress.

For your clarification of my concerns. I have tried ignorance in the past with my trading with little success; now with the Cisco course I am receiving the correct education. So many things are beginning to make sense. Thank you.

(At the end of Short Course.)
First of all let me say its been a pleasure and it is beginning to be profitable. I have made the mental commitment to become a lifelong student of the markets. The course has taught me more than I can say...but most of all it has taught me that I have much to learn. But above all, I have to say it fascinates and challenges me in a way few things have. And you, and all of your work, has played the major role in all of this...so thank you, although barely adequate as it is for what you have provided.

The plain truth is as you have said that nothing substitutes for hard work. Your course was hard work. It wasn't easy for me, but it was instructive. I was delighted to see a kind of rhythm to the auction process. It gave me hope for understanding what was before an enigma.

Now, I'm seeing that there is a way of applying logic to the process at least to measure the probability of a move. I'm grateful for what you have made available and I hope it continues to benefit others as well. Your insights for following the value area are most helpful.

I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT AFTER ALL THE MONTHS AND MY STUPID QUESTIONS WHAT YOU HAVE SAID IN THE COURSE HAS FINALLY SUNK IN.....VALUE. I finally saw it in UU today and was able to apply knowledge to capitalize on a really good trade. I am most appreciative for all that you have given the trading community and me personally, and look foward to much more work ahead to really become proficient.
Thanks for everything!
S.M. RI

Ed. I hear this a lot. Learning a new discipline is not easy. It was quite a switch for me, too, back when the Profile was new. No one can learn a new concept without work and study.

A quick update on me...I completed the Short Course about 6 months ago...for the 1st time...I have been thru all of the material again...I don't know if I am hardheaded or just really hard-wired, but I would be lying to say this stuff is coming easy...it is not. Nevertheless I am absolutely in love with this business and I am improving. I feel like the hazy window has a small peep-hole rubbed clean. I am also starting to get flashes of insight that are paying me from time to time...sounds strange I know, but I am not sure how to describe them...kind of like moments of clarity... :-) They are still rare but I cherish each one and work harder for the next one. I really hope to be able to teach this stuff some day...starting with my kids whom I am hoping to interest.

I'm nine months into the long course and have just reached a milestone that I wanted share with you. My trading account went positive today!

I've been trading live for about two months and have made every mistake imaginable - from order entry errors to taking profits too quickly. But yesterday I caught soybeans at the bottom on the (bracketing) range and rode it up for a nice gain before stopping out. I can't imagine trying to learn trading without the value based framework and data that Cisco provides.

I think I'm starting to tap into the "you" part of trading that Steidlmayer, Dalton and Jones talk about in their Market Profile books. Hell, I don't know. it could all blow up tomorrow, but I just wanted to say that you've given me some powerful knowledge - I hope I can make good use of it.

First of all I'd like to say the course is excellent. I quickly read the first three lessons to get the Gist am now going through a second time thoroughly. The reason I'm emailing is I'd like to own my own copy of Value based power trading. Would it be possible for you to mail me a copy. If so you have my card details.

April 28, 2008
Just a quick note to say a big "thank you" for the course. I've lasted the year - I expect most people did not get this far.

This month I went live with the trading. It's profitable, but most importantly I have complete calmness when trading - I finally understand how the market works. I can even leave the screen for a day and return back to a trade going the wrong way and get out with a good well understood exit! I can't really see the use of stops, even on a day of market free fall - there's always a better exit in the near future.

The course as it stands is fine from an information point, and I can see why it is structured to make you think rather than spoon feeding. It was like working on a PhD! The only issue I have is with the data download. It would be nice to pull say the past 10 days of visual graphics down for a commodity in one go. This is that hardest part of the course I had - placing all the reference points in context. The mechanics of pulling individual graphs down for the past few days made it hard work. In fact this led me to writing my own code to process the data, and from that I did some statistical analysis on the the reference points and this forms the basic of my trading model.
A.S. GBr

Ed. note: A.S. does have a PhD. The 'data download' problem he mentions is addressed in the new Value Analytics. There, the daily Table includes details of the last three trading days. This provides the 'flow' of the market within the proper timeframe for flow analysis. A.S. has written his own data collection program and does not use CISCO data.

Just wanted to let you know since starting your course what changes I have made in myself due to the knowledge you have given me. First of all I have always wanted to trade without fear, instead I wanted to feel a state of heightened awareness with a view of all my options to make a clearly defined decision. I was in fear because I really did not have a clear view of my options, but only a nervous guess. Now I see clearly my boundaries, limits and defined targets. The fear has left me. Confidence is filling in.

1985 when I was first introduced to the profile concept.

I never properly thanked you for all the time you spent answering my many emails over the last year. I really got my money's worth from you and the course material. It took a while for me to understand, but your "big picture" answers forced me to learn and focus on the details. Don, thank you for the opportunity to participate in the AMVA Beta Test.

I am a lesson 3 student in the short course and I found the AMVA format very helpful. It saves me time for one, which is a rare commodity for me...and the data which I would normally pull from three places is condensed in a format that facilitates a better picture of context and ongoing condition development.

The result has been an improvement in my trading. I think partly because AMVA provides an approach that reinforces what I am learning in the lessons (due in large part to your support emails), but more importantly, the format improves the way I approach assessing market generated data. I think I develop a better sense of market condition simply because the data is laid out in a fashion that leads me more effectively through the analysis process. I am less scattered in my approach to assessing the data and I think, creating fewer situations where I may focus too heavily on one aspect and miss a key element of another...AMVA has improved the discipline of my approach and my consistency. The Three Day Condition report combined with CMaPS is a powerful analysis tool.

I think you are right in your comments about context. I still feel context is a big challenge for me. More accurately, it is understanding which data is more critical or should be weighted more heavily, relative to context or market condition. Certainly simply tracking value direction, volatility, and Trade Facilitation is fundamental, but I am sure I am missing clues in things like IB range, TPO's in the IB, and TPO's above and below the previous day's IB. I think this is reflected in my early-day trading as I tend to wait for development and often miss better entry locations. I sense much of this is going to come as I gain more experience. I keep going back to Steidlemayer's descriptions of IB conditions and day time-frame development...and trying to get better at understanding what IB is telling me about market condition development. I am certainly learning markets have individual characteristics regarding IB...maybe more a function of volume.

Don, the lessons are simply fantastic. I have many questions but generally find the answers I need in the significant reference materials that are provided. You have done an outstanding job in developing and presenting this work. I have much to learn and the journey has been enlightening. It has changed me beyond my engagement with the markets. I am truly grateful.

Thank you very much for continually sending me emails on this excellent subject.
I have tried several times to work for a futures house, but gave up the thought until recently, when I applied for a prop trading position using the firms cash (UK based). The best part is they use market profile and I feel that with my previous reading on your website and the book, it does at least look more favourable than in the past.

Ever since I came across your web site I have been meaning to write and thank you for the excellent information you are putting out.

I came across Market Profile in my Dip. TA course, and was instantly impressed, and I bought 2 of your books. I have applied this to my trading and seen a huge improvement in my trades, and comprehension of price action - although I still have a lot of work to do on psychology! I am so impressed with the Meta Profile technique that I have added something like this to my trader development solution, a software package that allows novice traders to practice in real time on a real market and tracks and reports on key aspects of their trading.

It saddens me that for over 2 years I have wasted time and money on stuff that really didn't help me at all, and yet all your good information was sitting there for free! The problem is of course, information overload, there is just too much trading related material out there. Probably more money in selling shovels and picks than mining the gold, as they say.

Don,
I First met you in Chicago, 1991 or 92 where you gave a few ....
I have resisted seminars as a waste of time and money after shortly discovering presenters were more often than not, pretenders, fast buck cons or narcissistic eccentrics.
Just returned from a three day seminar with Alexander Trading in Atlanta. For reasons that remain a mystery to me, I felt compelled to go at the last minute, subconsciously perhaps propelled by your frequent mention of Alexander Trading mentoring.
I thought to confirm your judgment.........
All the best and keep up the good research.

Hi Don,
First week over. Been reading solid all week some excellent reading the info you have written is excellent. Read and dowloaded alot of documents on site, only downloaded first months study and half way through value based power trading. I feel like i have been trading with a blindfold on and a bag over my head. Never had a chance of making it as a trader.

Got rid of esignal like you said. Their profile is a bit to be flacky. Using a copy of tradestation with the sirtrade market profile. Running it off my interactive brokers feed. Seems ok will do for the next few months only costing 10$ for the feed, esignal was charging me over 200$. Been using the CMaPS off your site for the accurate data.

Been trading the ES (UU), YM and the bonds and 10 year notes. Had some excellent paper trades on the bonds and notes using long term Overlays. Don't really need any fancy charting; already have levels from the info from your site.

One question do you think it is better to study and trade markets from the CBOT because of the LDB and the hourly LDB than the CME?.
S.R. England

CISCO answer: You can trade all markets with Overlay and CMaPS data, equally well. LDB hourly clearing currently lags the market too much to be useful to the day trader for most. It is valuable for end-of-day. We carry the commercial capping on the Visual Graphic.

I am learning a lot. Glad I found out about Market Profile and CISCO. It makes most all of the other approaches fall by the wayside. Yes, the concept of value and tracking its movement is very comfortable for me. It is an invaluable way of understanding any market. I can look at a VG and find the market condition pretty well. The only thing I am still working on is being able to identify internal trends and subtle shifts in value within a bracket. Trading the breakout is the highest probability trade for me so far. ---------------- My 'apprenticeship' is coming along pretty well and I am pleased with the results. This is the first real training I have received in regards to trading, and it has made a world of difference. I am learning to keep records, learn from my mistakes, and for the first time I have a theoretical basis for market understanding. I feel like I know what I am doing, rather than hoping I know what I am doing.

I find your site exceptionally well organized, friendly, with a lot of useful information. Being a beginner day trader (with 6 months of self education and paper trading under my belt), I plan to purchase your short home study course very soon.

Something really interesting happened to me after reading your materials on-line the very first time. I immediately applied the theory to my paper trading using data replay on E-signal charts and visually finding this future's Value and applying a simple trading strategy. Right away I felt very comfortable and calm, understanding for the first time in my life what was happening to the market and my trades worked very well. To this point of my trading, I used TA and really finding it difficult to trade by just reacting to indicator patterns. I am fascinated by auction theory and eager to learn as much as I can from your offerings.
A.B. NY

Just wanted to thank you for the free trial period. I think the Cisco web site is one of the most valuable sites I ever seen posted in the web. I have already been through different stages in pursuing my ambition to become a trader...systems, gurus, newsletters, books, software..you name it. I've got several thousand hours of internet researching in the last 6 years.....The Cisco approach is the most "realistic". You have a lot of information available and a lot time is needed to get familiar with it. When I feel I'm ready I will take on one of your courses. AT the moment I am studying Auction Market Theory and notes related to it.

From Hotcomm (a chat room)
While our daily trading is keenly focused on the intraday price volume action, the astute observer of the market never loses sight of the bigger picture. When I first became a student of the market, Don Jones's writing on the Market Profile (www.cisco-futures.com) encouraged me to focus on the "major auction" and position trade; i.e. ignore the intraday move and focus on the bigger picture. Trading the position or market "swing" is the first type of trading I learned. There is a wealth of free information at Don's site. Don's book, Value based Power Trading is well worth reading. I earned my MBA in futures by taking Don's year long home study course. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for letting me sample CMAPS. I think sometimes I look at trading and say this is so complicated, how can I ever be successful. With CMAPS it is a simple as going with the breakout and wait for congestion to get out. Let me tell you how I have used it. I strictly trade the e-mini S&P.It may not be right and only long term will tell but I first like to wait for the initial balance period to be over and trade above or below it once outside the value area. On Wednesday the IB period closed right below the top of the previous days value area. I went long and had a very nice trade.

Hi, I'm in month 4 of our lessons. I havn't been able to paper trade as much as I am supposed to, but I have made over 40 points on paper with the ES in the last four sessions using little more than the eod market profile. I love this course.

Your profile VA's on 9/24/03 gave us over 10 points easy after getting stopped out on first entry.

9/25 stopped out first entry, second and third entry I took half at +2 points and stopped other half even. Then +2 first half +9.75 second half on third entry.

9\30 short entry at 999.00 20min after open for +2 on half and +5 other half,( it dropped 10 points but bounced ), then stopped out long at 1:02 for -1.50, then stopped out of a short at 1:40 for -1.50, and then +2 on half with + 3.75 on other half at close from a 2:15 short.

Oct 1rst it called long 2min after open at 998.75, +2 on half, then +16.25 at 1015.00 about 5min before close on other half.

Today had a nice bounce exactly off the eod mp upperlimit but didn't take it for the 0verlay looked down.

This is a somewhat different testimonial. This gentleman told us he had spent over $16,000 on training courses (mostly from the same company).

Here, CISCO is telling him there is no magic way to learn to trade. "I could be wrong, but I see you as another who wants to cut to the chase. That does not work."

His response is very illuminating. "Yep I guess you are right, but to my defense, I had never heard of the terms used in trading when I took my first course, like simple moving average I wrote down single moving average and protective stop I thought was prospective stop. Also I was told how easy it was, so I had no reason to think otherwise. As a consequence when I started failing and losing some trades I believed it to be my stupidity resulting in more "advanced" courses. I wish I had heard Dalton earlier on a Zap Futures program and after emailing him for more info he told me he did not do the courses anymore and to contact Cisco-Futures and that brings us up to now."

HI DON,
I'M LETTING YOU KNOW THAT I HAVE COMPLETED THE (SHORT) COURSE & I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING MY OWN TRADING METHODOLOGY WHICH INCLUDE MY IDEAS ALONG WITH YOURS. DURING THE COURSE I WOULD COME UP WITH A SERIES OF QUESTIONS & I ALWAYS INTENDED TO EMAIL YOU LOOKING FOR ANSWERS, THEN I BEGIN SEARCHING FOR THE ANSWERS WITH GREAT RESULTS. IF I WAS STUCK ON A SUBJECT I WOULD SET OUT TO CONCENTRATE ON IT UNTIL IT GOT THROUGH MY HARD HEAD. I FIND CISCO DATA TO BE THE BEST THERE IS FOR ANY SERIOUS FUTURES TRADER, SO I'VE DECIDED TO CONTINUE WITH YOUR SERVICES BY PURCHASING SWING TRADER PACKAGE & INTRADAY MARKET PROFILE WHICH INCLUDES END OF DAY & 5 DAY COM STRIP.

Hi Don,
It was a pleasure talking with you last week. I enjoy your insights to trading and the markets. I have spent a lot of time in the last week studying the first two lessons in the short course.

The tool that impressed me the most was the advice engine. After studying the market condition I can almost tell when a market is going to break out. I am gaining a lot of confidence in your methods. So now that I have a pretty good idea of when to get into these markets I would say I need to know how to manage these trades once I am in them. I do believe these are covered in preceding lessons.

Hi Mr. Jones,
I manage my own financial company now in France (BBRG). I still work with a Market Profile data base, from which I've developed my own studies.

I must say that I learned a lot from your course: I scan a lot of markets, looking for the best opportunities and take logical decisions for swing trading. I work on Eurex, Globex, ACE, Monep.

......................................
Another question, Mr. Jones: I'd like to pass the series 3 exam to become certified CTA. Could you here again give me advice to find a place where I could follow home-study courses for this purpose?

I've been reading some of the free stuff on your site and find it excellent. I've really learned a lot. And I still have a lot to cover. Your site is packed with valuable data and is a bit overwhelming at the beginning, but it contains interesting and thoughtful data.
Thanks

Thank you very much for your advice.
It's only been 1 week but my trading has improved tremendously! I do not trade as much and when I trade the win loss ratios is now very high.

I look forward to finishing this course right!

You will hear form me in 2 weeks as I want to just get on with this course and draw up my plans.

Hello Don,
For the last two days, I've been experimenting (with real money) to trade EUR/USD spot currency, using VBPT techniques. Usually the EUR/USD rate is quoted about 10 pips above the Euro currency future contract. After using a simple method of value breakout, I was able to rip about $2000 in profit. This could be a beginner's luck, but certainly is the best luck I ever had.

Little by little certain concepts of the AMT are sinking in. Basically for these past two months I've been reading and studying but the ideas seem quite overwhelming, however lately bits and pieces ( like a puzzle ) are starting to come together. Don't laugh, but like a light bulb going off , it dawned on me that I've got to to track the 'commercials'. I've been reading it, studying it, but never really truly appreciating this reality. Let me also say now how grateful I am to you for helping me along in my studies.
......

By the way the last email you sent suggested that I read the Trading as a Career and Trading Model Developemnt (in "Whats New")...this is powerful information and thanks for the nudge. I was amazed especially at the profile you developed ( emini sp trader )...it fit me to a 'T'.

Hi Don
just finished my first read through your book. WOW! I think you might have just pushed your son off my #1 reading choice for the year. Lots of great info--(but the editing / page order is not up to the same standard as the writing.) I'm going to read it again over the next couple of days to cement some of the ideas. It's a great book.

Your website is awesome, Don.
Thanks for putting the time over the years of developing it. Let me remind you that I need to sit on the front row until I get into the habit of recognizing what the market is doing. And your website is designed to do it!!!

Don:
We all know the real purpose of a testimonial letter. It's not simply to express appreciation for a job well-done. I've thanked you many times, and am happy to do so now in public. (And without your solicitation, I might add).

No, testimonials are really intended to supply advice and comfort to others who MIGHT become customers in the future. People who are THINKING about it, in other words.

So, let's cut to the chase, Dear Reader. What you really want to know is: Should I take this course? Should I buy the data? Indeed, should I accept CISCO's entire perspective on market behavior and opportunity?

It might be easier to answer these questions if I had just made 3 million dollars, based on what I had learned from CISCO. The truth is: I haven't made a dime yet. I also haven't made a single trade for the last year.

Instead, I did what my teacher told me to do, which is to concentrate on my studies. Now that the course is almost over, I'm preparing to go back into the markets. This time, I think I'll have a fighting chance because I have at least a functional understanding of what markets are and what my place is in them.

Going through the course has been hard, but fun work. Will the training help me to make money? Believe it or not, my teacher expects me to break-even by this time next year, only I'll be a lot smarter and more experienced. I hope to prove him WRONG on the break-even part, but we'll see.

At least I'll have a conceptual framework for what I'm doing -- and that's worth a lot.

Anyway, bottom line is that I'm getting a much deeper appreciation for the whys and wherefores of Auction Market Theory. Probably should have done some of this during the course, but I guess it takes time for some of these ideas to sink in.

P.S. I am so glad that I purchased the hard copy of the book. It is excellent, and I feel like new worlds are being opened up to me. In fact, I'm quite sleepy this morning because I tried to stay up all night to read it!

WOW! Didn't mean to shout, but I have spent the better part of the last two days collecting and reviewing information from your website. I'm overwhelmed, suitably impressed and delighted to have been fortunate enough to be able to pursue your 'teachings', this is the kind of information I have been seeking. I look forward to the next step(s) in being able to gain a true understanding of the dynamics of the market (specifically the S&P's for me).

I think that with the "free" information alone I have collected, I have made a potential 'quantum leap' (sorry for the cliche) in my abilities to 'dismantle' the market. My understanding of Market Profile coming in was rudimentary at best; I now have a far better perspective and understanding of these dynamics.

Thank you for everything that you have done with the whole thing. It is the only system, even though we have only, barely, dusted the surface, that actually looks like there is a chance of doing what it says it will do. Thank you for all of your efforts you have put into it! We are retiring soon, and I was wondering if there is any way we can get more than one lesson per month. I know it is a lot to absorb, but we will have a lot of free time on our hands, and what better way to spend some extra time than to help yourself live. Oh, by the way. The format of all caps, i.e., MONTH 4, or 5, etc., in the center of the line, is an excellent way to announce it. It stands out among all the hundreds of other incoming emails our son receives. Again, thank you for everything.

This is great data base with which someone can look back and research the viability of previous concepts and in the process experience the emergence of new ones. This site is an awsome body of knowledge you are perpetuating / maintaining.

Man, this knowledge is great! Not to be overly critical, but it makes all those other 'technical' approaches look rather infantile.

When it comes to plan the day the Visual Graphic is unbeatable, it is so jam packed with information.

I can also tell you that I am using Best PFG as my broker. Very good trading software. When it comes to the 12 months I have followed your course, words can not describe what this has given me, I could write a mile, but I have a feeling that you know what I mean.

I can tell you one thing, I know why swing trading works........

I'm very happy to find that you gave clear answers to my questions...which is very rare in this business. I'm going to subscribe today on the course, hoping it's going to give me a real edge in this business I want to practice as a professional, not as a gambler flipping coins. R.G. France

Just a few words to tell you that I'm very happy and impressed by your works. It seems to me that I've learned more the last two days than I ever did in many months...What I appreciate is to find informations that don't request kind of faith or hope. Simply the facts. Well, if I need faith and hope on earth, I can go to church to pray the Lord... R.G. France

Enjoying the course very much. This was probably the smartest move in my trading life. The more I learn, the more I realize how complicated trading can be. So far the hardest part (for me) is to track cti2 (commercial) activities to pinpoint a proper support/resistance level. Again, thanks for the great job you're doing to teach a novice trader like me to make sense out of this trading jungle! F.C. California
